A mixture of puzzles and battle strategy
Slime Legion is a free game of puzzles and strategy. It is set within a cute world of fantasy but is trickier than its childlike aesthetic suggests. A lot of strategies will go into making sure that you can beat the oncoming enemies.
The game combines the simple match-three gameplay of Candy Crush Saga for Windows 10 with the tactics of Gratuitous Space Battles. First, your job is to build an army by matching objects. Then let the battle begin, and hope that you have enough creatures on your side.
Where slimes are the heroes
Slime Legion is set in an inversion of a traditional JRPG world. Slime creatures and other monsters are cast as protagonists, and human "heroes" become antagonists. Behind the novelty value of this premise, it initially seems to be a straightforward match-three game. Slime Legion takes place on a grid filled with items, which you can move around by swapping pieces.
Merge to make creatures
The grid contains various fantasy items: swords, staffs, tentacles, coins, and so on. The idea is to swap these until they end up in rows of three or more. Doing so doesn't merely destroy the symbols but causes them to merge into creatures. This is where the big twist comes into play, as these creatures can fight off enemy attacks.
Oncoming enemies
Once you have used up your allotted moves for a stage, a set of enemies will appear from above. Any creatures that you have created will fight them off. If you have enough troops in the right places, you'll prevent the enemies from reaching your castle.
An innovative title
Slime Legion is an innovative title that should appeal to fans of strategy card games. It is straightforward enough for kids but sufficiently sophisticated for adults. Some elements, including the leveling-up system, might be a little too complex.
